The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and the cause and prevention of disease.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic. When most people hear this word their first thought tends to be either “back pain”, “neck pain” or possibly “headaches”. These associations are not wrong, as chiropractic is phenomenal at helping people get out of pain and back to living their lives. However this is an incomplete association.

Goal of Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a drug-free, holistic, natural form of manual health care, the goal of which is to allow full expression of an individual’s innate ability to heal and experience vitality. What this means is that the goal of chiropractic is to help you be the best you that you can be – to help you thrive. All of us are born with an incredible capacity to heal and regenerate, and thus experience a state of ease within our bodies and lives. However, modern lifestyles often detract from these abilities, moving us towards dysfunction, pain and a state of dis-ease (where you may not feel overtly sick or have a specific disease, but you aren’t functioning at 100% of your optimal potential).

To unlock our innate potential for health, chiropractors utilize the spine – they assess for, locate and remove subluxations of the bones of the spine via specific and precise chiropractic spinal adjustments.

What’s so special about the spine and adjusting the spine?

The spine is uniquely positioned to serve as this entry point for intervention as it contains the spinal cord which connects to the brain (the master controller of everything  that you do or feel), as well as to the nerves going to all the parts of our body (muscles, organs, skin, etc.). The spine thus serves as sort of an information highway, carrying information to and from the brain and all your body parts and allowing them to communicate with one another.

Studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments of the spine help facilitate more optimal communication, improve the motion of subluxated joints, and decrease levels of stress hormones in the body. With over 90% of chronic diseases having a stress-related component, everyone, young or old, can benefit from a chiropractic assessment and care. Chiropractic is a safe, effective and evidence-based approach to health care!

Other methods available to chiropractors

Methods other than spinal adjusting can also be used by chiropractors depending on the unique needs of the patient. Such methods could include extremity adjusting, work with the soft tissues of the body, acupuncture, various electrical modalities, and lifestyle tips and guidance.

Dr. Alyssa is educated in several adjusting methods, both manual and instrument-assisted as well as methods of adjustment for pregnant women and children, soft tissue techniques, healthy lifestyle interventions and is currently studying acupuncture to bring the best array of treatment options to her patients. She tailors her care to the unique needs, challenges and goals of each individual.
